Last year five elementary schools were merged into two new ones in Truro. One of those closed and about to be torn down was Alice Street school.
Our children went there. Many TC and Normal College students will have done their practice teaching there.
Next weekend Brunswick Street United Church is hosting an East End Community Weekend. Friend Herb Peppard is organizing a table on Alice Street School. I rounded up some school books for him and took this picture for a poster at the table.

Hi Neil, I am learning quite a bit about schools and teaching through your blog. On the weekend at the Paint the Port in Hantsport, I met a woman who was a student teacher in my mother's classroom in Windsor many years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhere did your mother teach ? I may have visited her school and known her - and the student teacher. Thanks for visiting the Blog which is sems to be a mish-mash of things. - Neil
ReplyDeleteSad closing down a school like that -- it has so much more character than new schools!
ReplyDeleteHi, Rob, thanks for dropping by. It will probably be torn down; a similar one in the West End, Willow Street, has been bought. Whether the building itself survives or not is unknown.
